The program is honored to announce that Dr. Mary Shaw, the Alan J. Perlis University Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, has been selected by President Barack Obama as a recipient of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. The award represents our nation’s highest honor for achievements in the field of technology, innovation, and invention.

Dr. Shaw has served as a member of the Carnegie Mellon University faculty since 1971, and was instrumental in the design of the Master of Software Engineering Professional program curriculum.  She has remained committed to the program’s evolution and enduring principles throughout the last twenty-five years.  She is a fellow of the ACM, the IEE, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is co-recipient (with colleague David Garlan) of the 2011 Outstanding Research Award from the Association for Computing Machinery’s (ACM) Special Interest Group on Software Engineering.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Shaw on this outstanding accomplishment.
