Certificate in Systems and Software Engineering
The certificate program in System and Software Engineering (CSSE) is a joint collaborative effort between Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science and Cornell University’s College of Engineering. Designed for working professionals, the program is geared toward working professionals with backgrounds in either software or systems development and are interested in expanding their knowledge in one or both of the disciplines.
The program consists of four core courses and an elective, completed part-time via distance delivery. A unique component of the certificate program is that two of the core course are taken through Cornell, and two through Carnegie Mellon. The elective can be taken from either institution, with a variety available. The typical applicant has two or more years of industry experience, and has worked on numerous small and large-scale software or system projects.
Upon completion of the certificate, students may elect to pursue a full degree either in Systems Engineering at Cornell or in Software Engineering at Carnegie Mellon. Courses successfully completed in the certificate program may be counted toward degree completion requirements for accepted applicants.
