Dr. Poovammal is the Professor & Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SRM University. Additionally, she serves as the Manager of Corporate Relations for the CMU-SRM MSIT-ESE program. Dr. Poovammal obtained her PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from SRM University, where her thesis was titled "Development of Transformation Based Privacy Preservation Methods for Data Mining". Her scholarly interests include Data Mining, Association Rule Mining, Web Mining, Text Mining, Image and Video mining, as well as Privacy and Security in the Cloud. She currently guides eight research scholars in projects relating to data mining and image processing.

Before joining SRM, Dr. Poovammal has held a number of positions including M/S. Masseys Engineering, where she worked as an Estimation Engineer; I.T.I Computer Center; and Tuticorin Port Trust.

When not working with students or researchers, you can find Dr. Poovammal listening to classical and film music.
